Permits
The District requires that all work involving the sanitary sewer system within District boundaries be permitted by the District. The property owner or contractor is required to submit a permit application along with any required forms, construction drawings and/or plans. The proposed work is reviewed and a permit is issued to the property owner or contractor. The length of time required for the review period will vary depending on the scope of the project, however, the minimum is 48 hours. Once the permit is issued, it remains an open file until the District is notified for inspection.
Certificates of Sewer Availability
The District issues Certificates of Sewer Availability as the first step of the building permit process with the City of Shoreline and the District’s sewer construction process. Customers will provide the District with requested information about their project including any required forms, construction drawings and/or plans. The project information will be checked for any impact to the sanitary sewer system and any changes or additional requirements will be noted on the certificate. Certificates of Sewer Availability are usually processed within 48 hours. Two copies of the certificate are issued, one for the customer’s records and the other for the customer’s building application to the City of Shoreline.
Inspections
The District requires that all work performed on the sanitary sewer system be inspected by the District. When the property owner or contractor has completed work on the sanitary sewer system, they will notify the District that they are ready for an inspection. A District employee will go to the work site and inspect the work. Work performed will pass or fail inspection.
If the work passes inspection, photos are taken, and a field drawing of the work is completed, the permit is signed off by the District employee, and the work is considered satisfactory and complete. The field drawing is used to update the District AutoCad maps and to complete any additional documentation that may be required. Photos are archived for future reference if needed. The permit and all supporting documentation are filed in an appropriate address account folder.
If the work fails inspection, the property owner or contractor is informed of the incomplete installation and directed how to correct the installation. The permit is not signed, but notes may be made, and the District employee will leave the work site. The permit is filed pending notice of re-inspection.
Inspections are typically performed Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Please allow 24 hour notice to schedule an inspection.
